Fokus writes Spelet om FRA (SE). This is an article about what happened behind the scenes when the Swedish parliament pushed through its recent signal tapping laws. If true, it is really incredibly stuff fit for any Tom Clancy novel. When the prime minister in Sweden is raging “either your with me or egainst me” in front of his inner circle, you now something is very, very wrong.
Brokep, one of the admins of The Pirate Bay, writes Sverige – väx upp! (SE). The background is simple, there is a terrible murder of children in a Swedish small town (actually my home town, close to my mom), the documents from the proceedings, which includes pictures of the murdered children, is published by the court as official public documents for anyone to look at, the documents end up on The Pirate Bay. Simple eh? And you’d thinks it’s fairly clear whom to blame? Yes, of course it’s the eviiil Pirate Bays Fault! Eviiiil….
I don’t understand economy. But it’s clear something has gone very, very wrong in the States. Nassim Nicholas Taleb writes The Fourth Quadrant: A manp of the limits of statistics over at Edgo.org. Signal tapping and stupidities redux

The signal tapping law and discussions have certainly been both interesting and revealing. Here follows a few links for those interested. I’m afraid they’re all in Swedish though

First out, Sweden as an Echelon node by Rick Falkvinge (leader Swedish Pirate Party). Now, I’d be the first to admit that it feels absurd and far fetched. But it would also explain a few things, as for example the Swedish prime minister, or indeed the coalition itself, are so bloody close mouthed.
Secondly, Falkvinge again, but this time on the idea that it would be a crime for a Swedish citizen to witness a crime without interfering. Branded by the coalition as a way to improve safety, this is a terrible, terrible idea.
Thirdly, via HAX, Emma gives us a rundown on the laws and the ideas. This is truly scary stuff. A must-read.
And lastly, HAX himself gets into trouble with the law. Because you know, if you’re the head of an organization that has admittedly broken Swedish laws for several years, the best thing to to when discovered is try to silence the discoverer. Right?

Singaltapping in Sweden…

For those of you that have been trapped under a stone last couple of weeks: Sweden just passed a law mandating the government, using the military organ FRA, to spy on its citizens without the usual “do we think this person is a criminal”-kind of safe guards.Unbe-fucken-lievable.Now, I’m not a naturally political person, but this shit has me up in flames. The stupidity of the idiots in charge is amazing. Let’s take a fall out as example: During the debate before the decision the journalist Richard Slätt of Rix Television, wrote on his personal blog (SE) that several politicians in the coalition could “go to hell”. This is all very well and a sentiment everyone could agree with. Everyone but… Lena Forsman who is chief of communications for Centern (party in the coalition), who wrote (SE) an email of protest to, wait for it, Richard’s boss on Rix… Get this, she didn’t like him telling a number of people to “go to hell”. She belongs to a party that really liked the idea that the government should be allowed to snoop on its citizens at all times. And now apparently she thinks that she’s perfectly entitled to silence him by pressuring his boss.Lena Forsman, you’re a moron and you can go straight to hell, and take all the fascist asshats of our traitorous government with you. And if you don’t like me saying so, feel free to cry foul to my boss. I dare you.
