That Reading Thing
One of the few things I always seems to end up doing is to
throw books, preferrably light ones, at my friends. Both with and without
them asking me to in the first place. Strangely enough many of them instists
in continuing being my friends.

The Terror: A Novel.

Title: The Design of Everyday Things
ISBN: 0465067107 Rumblings:
This is a classic book on design. And I believe it was Ken Arnolds mentioning it in this excellent interview over at Artima.com which made me pick it up.
Really good stuff. If nothing else, and perhaps why it initially picked up momentum, because it teaches the somewhat seldom
heard lesson that it is not you fault you can't understand how to use the video recorder. It is in fact the fault of bad design, and users should not blame themselves for not understanding.
From a software designers point of view it may be tempting to argue that a book about design that frequently uses doors and
faucets as examples is more for the graphical user interface designer than the backend server developer. Not so. Read it and
find out.
I'll recommend this to my friends. You don't have to be interested in design to read it and, literally, see the word and its
everyday objects in a completely new light.
